Your skills describe what you like to do and what you are good at. You wouldn’t hire or reach out to someone to do something for you if they didn’t have the necessary skills. This applies to you as well. There are hard skills and soft skills. Hard skills can help a person get a job, while soft skills will help the person be successful in life. Here I describe 3 soft skills that will change your life in a good way.
During the industrial revolution, manual labor was king, and learning hard skills was the golden egg. Today, with the information era in full swing, hard skills are still an asset, but the need for soft skills has taken over, and the mindset and ability to adapt is what differentiates those that want to have their manual-labor jobs back, and those who ride the new wave of knowledge jobs and businesses.
It’s no longer enough to be the smartest guy in the room. In order to succeed at work, you must get along well with all the people with whom you interact, including managers, co-workers, clients, vendors, customers, and anyone else you communicate with while on the job. These are the types of skills all employers value.
Soft skills are often the reason employers decide whether to keep or promote an employee. Some soft skills can be taught in school. But most you learn in everyday life and can improve at any time.
There have been numerous articles, blogs, books, TED talks, that list all the soft skills that a person need to succeed. I want to focus on three of them, because I’ve seen that when you master these, the others will also become part of your life.
People with this ability are more likely to understand tasks and projects, build strong relationships with co-workers, and also be able to solve problems and resolve conflicts.
Active listening can be accomplished using two components: attention and reflection. Attention involves holding eye contact, nodding, having good posture, and mirroring the speaker’s body language to show genuine interest in what they’re saying. Reflection is the repeating and paraphrasing of what the speaker has said to show that you truly understand what they’re telling you.
One way to demonstrate active listening is to allow the interviewer to complete each question and statement before responding. Do not interrupt and be sure that your response genuinely answers the question.
Public speaking is a soft skill that requires excellent communication skills, enthusiasm, and the ability to engage with an audience.
This soft skill comes into play in many scenarios. It’s important not only in the delivery of speeches and public talks, but also in professional presentations, training events, and motivational speaking. Consultants, coaches, managers, clergy, sales representatives, and teachers, for example, all have a reason at times to speak in front of others.
Copywriters, or Marketing Writers, are responsible for producing engaging, clear text for different advertising channels such as websites, print ads and catalogs. Their duties include researching keywords, producing interesting written content and proofreading their work for accuracy and quality.
Copywriting is much different than typical writing, such as writing an article, blog post, or other pieces of content. Effective copywriting works to drive responses and increase purchases. Copywriting is needed in most businesses for marketing materials for products, services, fundraising campaigns, and more.
How to acquire soft skills
A good way to work on acquiring or improving these skills is to work with a mentor. A mentor can give you feedback and give you an external perspective. He can also help you find opportunities to improve yourself.
I wrote an article on the importance of having a mentor, with additional insights. A mentor can guide you in your self-improvement journey. But don’t expect that your mentor will give a recipe to follow blindly. Instead, engage in a self-discovery exercise where you find the answers to your own questions.
I wish you all the success, and you can contact me is you have any questions!
There are many ways to live a happy live. You can show love, forgiveness, or you can say no to toxic behaviors. Learning to find meaningful activities helps us find better paths in our journey. And it’s true, the more you learn the more you live.
More life can be manifested either in years of age, or in quality of life. Sometimes suffering an excruciating illness or living a life with no purpose can expose similar feelings.
Keeping the brain busy has become the easiest, cheapest, and fastest way to engage in a rewarding learning exercise that regenerates the neurons and fills the day with exciting new discoveries. In some cases, the learning sessions will uncover abilities that the person never thought possible, due to some horrible paradigms like “I have no talent” or “nobody supported me”.
Once the mental barriers are conquered, we can pursue any… yes, any kind of learning.
Regardless of the results, regardless of the level of learning achieved, the act of thinking and trying to execute the new ability will be of great benefit. Embracing the struggles and celebrating the small victories is the name of the game.
And remember, how do you eat an elephant? One bite at a time.
Some things to learn
Here I provide some ideas you can try in order to keep busy and get smarter. All the basic learning can be done online, but the application is the key to make it work.

Most people don’t really want to ‘learn’ to play the piano or ‘practice’ the piano, they just want to ‘play’ piano. ‘Play’ sounds like fun, ‘practice’ sounds like a chore. We get this image from childhood – some kid stuck indoors ‘practicing’ scales while all the other kids are outside the window ‘playing’.
So, first thing we need to do is to see our piano practice in a new light. See it as a way of accelerating the learning process so that SOON you’ll be able to ‘play’ piano and play it well. If you don’t practice and you just play old familiar tunes you move rather slowly. Yes, you’ll get better at playing those old familiar tunes but technically you won’t be pushing yourself to greater heights.
Proper, structured piano practice helps you stride forwards. I say ‘proper’ because a lot of people have an idea that practice IS just playing songs over and over. Practice needs to involve unchartered territory. The golden rule is – ‘practice what you CAN’T play, not what you CAN play’.
2 – Sing, sing, sing!
Wouldn’t it be great to shock those around you with a new singing voice?

Many have cheated themselves out of the satisfaction and joy of singing beautifully.
They have missed out on a rich life experience.

3 – Learn to Draw like a Master Artist
I am always on the lookout for ways to improve my drawing skills. I do this by hunting around the Internet to see if I can find new tutorials. Yesterday I stumbled across a cool pencil drawing site that I think is going to make a HUGE difference, especially if you want to draw realistically.
It is a pencil drawing course that specializes in taking beginners and teaching them how to draw in a realistic style. The course itself is online video, so you can access it from anywhere in the world – the videos worked perfectly on my tablet and phone.
Each class is two hours long so you can even draw with which watching the video, nothing is left to the imagination. The course starts off by showing you all the equipment you need and the basic strokes. Even in this video I picked up a cool tip for erasing.
What I like is that each lesson builds on the previous so you are never thrown into the deep. Each class has it’s own concept or technique that you need to master, for example, in the second class you learn how to spot the different tonal values. In this class Nolan (the instructor) uses different styrofoam objects to show you the light affects the tonal values. The way he explains it makes it so easy to understand, like theory being explained in a practical way.

With each class you get a downloadable template which you can print out and use that to transfer to your drawing paper. You then also get a high quality photo of the reference and the final drawing. They are laid out in the pdf in such a way that when you print it out, each are exactly the same size. This makes it easy to judge sizes while drawing.
In each class you complete a drawing project. Like in the second class you draw a realistic spoon. At the beginning of the class I though it was going to be difficult, but after watching the explanations at the start of the class and the practical demo, it turned out to be quite easy.
The next four lessons are also still life drawings. There is an onion and garlic still life, transparent wine glass, rose and an apple drawing. In each of these you learn all about creating texture and depth in your drawings as well as drawing negatively and how to draw reflective objects.
From there you start drawing portraits. Nolan shows you how to draw all the major features like the eyes and mouth. What I liked was that he shows you what to look out for with each one. Once you have completed say the ear class, you will be able to draw any ear and not just the one from the class itself.
What really makes this course stand out from the rest is that it goes much deeper than any of the other courses I have seen. There are even classes on how to draw material textures and hands.
You will be amazed at how quickly you progress! – Click the image to learn more.
I am still busy with the course myself – it’s massive (there is over 32 hours worth of video in this course), but I know that my drawings are going to move up a few levels when I’m done. It’s totally worth it. Another slam dunk! Definitively another great example that the more you learn the more you live!
The course is brand new, so is currently on a launch special at less than half price. Why don’t you go and check it out for yourself, you may be able to still bag yourself this bargain as well.

I love education. I believe that small learning acts, like reading, make us smarter every day.
I used to be a straight A student in Elementary and Junior High, but in High School I started to change; I noticed that I was missing out in some aspects of life where I could make a difference and still be good student.
Dedicating time to other activities had an impact my grades, but such experiences helped me see the world differently. I noticed that education at school is limited, because students normally make sure to read or learn enough to hit the mark, but life teaches in quite different ways. There are no limits, no boundaries, no boxes. It’s a green field for everyone who is trying to live life in his own terms.
While school education stops, life goes on. And then it becomes a matter of personal attitude, initiative, creativity and consistency.
I have no doubt that the foundation of formal education is needed to catapult a person into new levels of knowledge, but to be successful in today’s world there is a lot of knowledge that schools simply don’t provide. Is this part of a big plan to keep a lot of people with limited access to critical knowledge? I don’t know. However, I do know that today we can harness knowledge in ways that were almost impossible some years ago.
The fundamental issue I see is that the internet has created two types of players: the consumers and the creators. The ones who spend a lot of time watching, and those who deliver content geared towards value creation and business ventures.
Education is key to avoid being ignorant, but transforming the ideas and concepts obtained during formal education is best accomplished when it’s combined with personal life experiences, with the exclusive approach of the creator, without canned answers or proposals, but with an attitude of guidance and servant leadership to enhance the lives of others, to make an impact in those who put their trust in them.
I consume online content, but I also decided to create value, to express my ideas to inspire others the way I have been inspired by many people. I’ve been guided and I also help others become successful. I learned this thanks to the School of Life.
Success is not measure by what we accomplish in life, but what we help others accomplish in theirs.
Creator or Consumer? You decide…
If you want to learn how to become a creator of online content, check out my free training here.
It’s critical to adapt to the changing times we’re living in right now.
It’s no secret that for many people the skills they have and that have been generating income are no longer useful, at least during these crazy times. Yes, many are hopeful that the jobs will come back, but the waiting time is going to take a huge toll on and the demand for employee is not going to be the same as it was before.
Because the companies will not simply hire back all the employees they had. It’s a normal strategy to slowly reactivate the jobs and progressively try to go back to the prior levels of productivity. That means that at the beginning only a few people will be employed and for others the situation will get worse.
Learning new skills is a necessity. Here are three high paying skills that you can start learning today.
You have knowledge, you have skills, you have experience. All your life you have been doing some things that other people want to learn. Let me give you an example. If you were a cheerleader in your early youth, you have some tricks that you can share with other, and if you put your own spin to the way you explain those, that’s your branding. If you know how to dance, you can help others do the same. If you have kids and have apply some things that helped you raise your kids successfully, that’s a skill other parents need.
Your brand is the particular way you have to demonstrate your skills. It’s unique, it’s not copying anybody else. It’s your own way of presenting a solution to a problem.
You might say that the skill you have is already out there in Google, YouTube, TikTok or Instagram. But such skill with your own signature is not.
I grew up in the 70’s and when I heard on the radio songs like Staying Alive or Night Fever or More than a Woman, I was sure it was a girls’ band. Then I realized that it was a group of bearded dudes with a very special signature: a high pitch voice that presented the songs in a unique fashion that was accepted by millions of people all over the world.
So, your brand is something that you already have, you just need to refine it and make it specific so the people that relate to you can find you and follow you. And that’s the beginning of the journey where you put yourself out there in order to create value.
Branding is not about being a celebrity. It’s about helping people. You need to understand that nobody cares about you unless you care about people.
And to create value to show that you care about people you need to apply the next high-paying skill.
Expressing our thoughts and ideas sometimes requires writing them down in an organized way. Delivering a message that describes a real problem and then presents a great solution is a skill that requires practice and constant evolution. The ideas that live in your mind need to be written in such a way that the reader can perceive the benefit of paying attention to your message and to follow your recommendations.
Copywriting can be exhausting or it can be easy. It all depends on the clarity of your business proposition and the power of the solution that you intent to deliver to your audience. Learning copywriting is essential to communicate with your potential clients, and it doesn’t have to be formal or serious. There are plenty of entrepreneurs who’s branding is totally relaxed or casual. Presenting your personality in your writing is a sign of authenticity and allows people to know you better.
Finally, if you want to do business, you need to learn sales.
It doesn’t matter what industry or field you work or worked before, you have done sales.
Have you been interviewed for a job? That’s an act of selling. You’re selling your skills, your experience, your value. All this with the purpose of landing a job. Once in the job, you better be selling yourself highly every day to keep that job.
In your job, in your neighborhood or in your family you have a reputation. They refer to you with labels that describe your personality. Well, for good or for bad, this is the result of you selling your personality to those people.
What I’m trying to say is that selling is not a scary thing, but is a skill that demands rewiring our minds to understand that when we are rejected at the moment of trying to make a sell, we need to treat this as just another step in the process of closing.
Some people say that they are not made for selling, but that is the same as saying that a baby is not made for walking just because a few falls happened during the process.
There are millions of people that need help, and your skills are the perfect match for them. But without a branding platform where they can find you, without the right message to present your solution to their problem and the right way to persuade them to buy your solution there is no business. And this can apply to any product, either physical or digital. You can create your own training course, or you can promote products from other businesses, and you can make a commission. You can start with a product and then move to other product. In any case, the common skills to achieve success online are the same: personal branding, copywriting and selling.
Everybody wants to make money online, but learning the core skills is essential and is not that difficult, you just need to invest in yourself and be coachable so you can apply the same steps that other people have applied already.
Affiliate Marketing is one of the emerging business models that can make the difference between working on your dreams instead of working on those of someone else.

The amount of reading we do is directly proportional to the knowledge and the kind of mind we have and live by. There are scientific studies that suggest that our brain will not deteriorate in our late years if we keep learning new things frequently.
Here are 10 reasons to keep reading:
The more you read, the more intelligent you become. In every book we can find new words or expressions that enhance our vocabulary. Applying those new words in the daily conversations helps our brain to create new connections between the neurons, reinforcing our brain health.
You learn to focus and concentrate. It’s a challenge to read a book from cover to cover. Sometimes reading a chapter gives us a lot of value in our learning journey. The special time devoted to read can be very important, so focus… focus… focus…
You can travel. Yes, reading makes your imagination fly and it transports you to remote places. This is the reason why many people state that reading a book was better than watching the respective movie. That’s because the visual image they created is the result of their own creativity and mindset towards the story in the book.
You can improve your verbal abilities. By increasing your vocabulary, you can speak about the topics you read with fluency and with references to the source of the topic you talk about. If the topic is related to your job or other person situation, you will be able to drive the talk…
It can be relaxing. Reading before going to bed can help you to transition smoothly into a good sleep. Also, if you read early in the morning before doing other kinds of information intake, it can be beneficial in your learning.
It can make you interesting. When you’re know as an avid reader, people will want to talk with you. This turns into a positive cycle to keep gathering more knowledge by keep reading. It is a good problem to have!
It boosts your memory. As opposed to watching videos or listening to audio books, engaging the eyes in this active interpretation of the text forces your brain to ingrain the knowledge in a more effective way. The attention needed for reading is higher and will produce better results.
It’s entertaining. Reading about the themes you love will keep you busy while reaping all the benefits enlisted here. That increases you skills and make you a source of information for other people.
It enhances your creativity. You can always improve what you learn. That applies to what you read. Like when reading this article, you have the power to make it better.
It makes you appreciative of the arts. You will likely pursue additional knowledge related to what you read in other venues, like museums, the internet or any event related to your passion.
I love reading. Here are some of the latest books I’ve read. I think you can find these interesting.
A lot of us hesitate when it comes to start a business on the side. The fear to fail, to not make money or to lose money always get in the way. Our inner 6-year old child is always telling us that we’re not enough, that we don’t have what it takes to be successful, or that other were born talented… WRONG!
In today’s world we cannot apply the mindset of those who lived in before us. With all due respect to our parents and grandparents, the times we live in are way too different from theirs, and if they did not adapt to the new reality then we should think twice about following their advice to the letter. And that includes our teachers, mentors, friends, colleagues or acquaintances.
Technology has reshaped the way business is done. And learning by doing is the best formula to decide is we want to start a new business venture.
Here are the reasons why you should start a side hustle online:
#1 – It’s easy. It’s incredible how simple and fast is to start creating content online. Writing blogs, posting videos, creating digital courses… there’s a million things you can choose from to decide the nice you want to focus on. It’s literally a few clicks away.
#2 – It’s free. You don’t “need money to make money” online. You just need to understand that it will not happen overnight, but after some time while constantly creating value, you will reap the benefits of this, and then you’ll realize that your initial investment (if any), it was nothing compared to the new kind of life you have now.
#3 – You can learn. Doing by learning is great. I have learned things like trading forex and stock options, affiliate marketing, product arbitrage, and all that by giving myself the chance to try it. And even though sometimes I have list as a result of my investment, the learning experience and the connection I’ve made along the way have been invaluable. Those lessons I have learned cannot be taken away from me by anybody.
#4 – Learn about yourself. Sometimes we learn things about ourselves that have been there the entire time. This can happen when we connect with other people who are pursuing goals that are like ours. Their input is a great way to validate our potential and let it transform into actions that can help us get going. Remember, to avoid falling from the bicycle we must keep moving forward.
#5 – Find your target market. If you’re at this stage, that means you’re sold on the idea of doing business online. Here you use all the learnings and the feedback from those who are consuming your content to find your ultimate customer… those who will be interested in products that you recommend or your own product.
So, there’s pretty much no investment when it comes to learning online business models.
It’s up to you to take action.
Let me know if you need any help. I’d appreciate connecting with you to increase my network and learn how I can create more value to you.
